Lymphatic drainage

The lymphatic system is essential for the body to function properly.

It is composed of specific organs and a large network of lymphatic vessels, in which lymph fluid circulates. This colorless and transparent liquid ensures the circulation of lymphocytes, known for their role in the immune system.

The main ganglion groups are found in the neck, in the joint folds of the body such as the armpits and groin.

Once these nodes are crossed, the lymph fluid will then flow into the venous system and be eliminated from the body as urine by the kidneys.

Surgery or trauma can cause damage along the lymphatic system that can cause circulation to stagnate, leading to an accumulation of fluids, proteins, cells, and toxins.

What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage?

There are different methods of lymphatic drainage. The most frequently used and the best known is Vodder, method for which I am qualified.

In Vodder manual lymphatic drainage, the movements are precise, gentle, and painless. The pressure is much less than in a classic massage. It is performed on parts of the body that require lymph stimulation, without the use of oil/cream.

The movements are slow and rhythmic.  They stimulate the lymphatic circulation by manually recreating the body's natural pumping movements. This technique increases the contractions of the lymphatic vessels, thus contributing to the absorption of excess fluid and waste accumulated between the cells.
